About Me
Hi, I’m Michael McKinnon! I’m 38 years old, a married father of two young boys, and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I’m the part owner in a business called Click Names with my brother-in-law, Frank, and I like to pretend that I’m the next big thing in Internet Marketing.
A large part of my life has been spent sitting in a chair, in front of a computer – something I have done since I was about 16 and living at home.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve never been happy with my body. For one reason or another (all of them excuses) I have continued to pretend that I just look okay and that I’m not really that unfit or unhealthy – the reality however, is that I’m not healthy, and while I’m fitter than I have been in a while it could be much, much better.
Why have I started this Fitness & Healthy Living journey?
I started this journey in earnest on 24th August 2010, when I attended a workshop run by Bruce Doyle from ActionCOACH called “Time, Energy and Health” – during this workshop, Bruce introduced Matt Thom from Fitness Kick who started his presentation with a very powerful and motivational slideshow – and for me, the PENNY DROPPED.
The most powerful thing that Matt presented, for me, was this quote:
“Living Without Exercise is Like Smoking a Pack of Cigarettes a Day.”
Apparently the above quote came from the U.S. Surgeon General in 1996, after a report was released showing that a lack of Physical exercise is actually detrimental to your health.
Having given up smoking in 2004, I have since been a determined non-smoker, and it is my disgust at smoking that keeps me from ever taking it up again; and now that same inner belief is helping motivate me towards the need for exercise.
The 80/20 Rule and Health
The true revelation for me, as a firm believer of the 80/20 rule, is that it is ultimately what you EAT that has the greatest influence on your overall health, combined with regular exercise.
If you can’t control what Nutrients your body is absorbing, all the exercise in the world isn’t going to help you live longer and live a rich and productive lifestyle.
Do you want to live your life will Illness? Not being able to do the things you want? That isn’t a life… that’s a life sentence!
I do hope you enjoy this site, have a look around and let’s talk.
