Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil due to its high (92%) saturated fat content has been labelled by many as being totally unhealthy – a perception that understandably arises from the generalisation that “all” saturated fats are to be avoided. However, there appears to be some evidence that Coconut Oil is quite different to other saturated fats as it contains a number of properties that make it quite unique.
Coconut Oil is harvested from the kernel and meat of Coconuts (which grow on Coconut Palms). In Tropical countries it has provided the primary source of fat for millions of people and has many applications in food and medicine.
What is so special about Coconut Oil?
It is the extraordinarily high concentrations of Lauric acid (47.5%) that makes in unlike any other oil available (the next highest “typical” saturated fat that contains Lauric acid is Butter – with only 3%).
Lauric acid found in Coconut Oil is a known antibacterial, antioxidant, antiviral and has some anti-inflammatory properties as well.
What are Coconut Oil Benefits?
I have been taking a Tablespoon of Coconut Oil each morning, to supplement my diet to aid in Weight Loss, and I managed to lose 8.1Kgs (18 pounds) in just 30 days. That was with a combined healthy eating and exercise plan, but hopefully the Coconut Oil has contributed to that as well.
